Gall bladder rule 3: Gall bladder wall mass

1-This mass should be adherent to the wall and casting no posterior acoustic shadowing by ultrasound.
2-If it is mobile with posterior acoustic shadowing, this will be a calculus and not a mass.
3-The most common benign gall bladder mass is cholesterol polyp.
4-While the most common malignant mass of the gall bladder is carcinoma.
5-Other less common benign gall bladder lesions are adenoma and adenomyomatosis.
6-While the rest of the less common malignant gall bladder masses are lymphoma and metastases.
How to differentiate between them


                                         Benign Mass                                              Malignant Mass
-Size:                                Less than 1 cm.                                          Greater than 1 cm.
-Adherent wall:                 Thin wall.                                                     Thick and irregular.
-Surrounding tissue           Not present.                                                 Present
  invasion.
